Honnavar: Concerns have arisen among local fishermen and marine scientists following the discovery of two colossal whale carcasses along the taluk's shores within a week.
This Saturday, a 29-foot-long and 8-foot-wide female Balin whale was discovered in the proposed commercial port area. The locals promptly alerted the forest department. Forest department officials conducted an on-site examination, collected samples, and sent them for post-mortem analysis to determine the cause of death of these marine creatures.
Merely the previous Sunday, whale carcasses, already in an advanced state of decay, were found at Mugali Beach within the taluk. This prompted visits and inspections by officials from the Forest Department and Coast Guard personnel.
