Karwar: In observance of International Democracy Day, Uttara Kannada district is set to witness a unique event on September 15, with plans to form a 143-kilometer-long human chain from Mavinakoppa in Haliyal taluk to Shirur in Bhatkal taluk, according to a statement by Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya.

The large-scale event will see the participation of over 80,000 people, including elected representatives, district and taluk-level officers, leaders and members of various organizations, teachers, students, self-help groups, and members of Rotary, Lions, and Red Cross societies. District residents, school and college staff, and tourists are also encouraged to join in.

Each participant in the human chain will receive a certificate of appreciation from the state government, with the option to have their photo printed on the certificate. Those interested in participating can register their names on the official website www.democracydaykarnataka.in to receive their certificates.

The program will begin at 9:30 AM, with participants lining up for the human chain. The national anthem will be played at 9:37 AM, followed by speeches from the event's chief guests from 9:41 to 9:55 AM. The reading of the Preamble to the Constitution will take place between 9:55 and 9:57 AM. From 9:57 to 9:59 AM, participants will hold hands in the human chain while drone shots and videography capture the moment. The event will conclude at 10:00 AM with a collective salute to the nation as participants raise their hands and chant "Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka."

In her statement, Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya urged all residents of the district to join in large numbers and ensure the success of this historic event.
