Karwar: A bike rider died on the spot in a road accident on the Chitakul National Highway in the taluk when his bike was hit by a fish-laden lorry heading toward Goa from Karwar. The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Prakash Yashu Naik (69).

According to sources, Prakash was riding his bike from Bethnaikwada to Sadashivgad when a speeding lorry from Karwar to Goa collided with his bike as he was entering the highway.

Immediately after the accident, local people gathered and protested, highlighting that road accidents frequently occur at this location. They demanded the installation of speed breakers and street lights on behalf of the public. Memorandums were also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and other concerned authorities, but despite repeated demands, the administration and the highway authority have not addressed these requests. The lack of precautionary measures on the highway is cited as the reason for the recurring road accidents and the resulting loss of life among the local population.

Chittakul Police has arrested the lorry driver and has begun an investigation by registering a case.
