Bhatkal: In a suspected case of a short circuit, a house in Makhdoom Colony, Bhatkal, witnessed a devastating fire that consumed electronic items, three cupboards, a bed, and various valuable items. Fortunately, no family members were present during the incident, ensuring their safety. The unfortunate event occurred behind the Makhdoomia Jamia Masjid on Sunday morning.
Former president of Bhatkal Municipality and a prominent social activist, Mr. Muhammad Sadiq Matta's sister Mubasshira Yusuf, had visited her sister's house along with other family members, around ten o'clock the previous night due to her operation.
The following morning, a concerned neighbor called to report smoke emanating from the house. The family rushed back and discovered the extensive damage caused by the fire. Among the items turned to ashes were a new freezer, fridge, oven, juicer, iron, as well as three cupboards containing clothes, children's books, and other valuable belongings. The electric meter, fans, and other appliances also met the same fate.
Neighboring residents, upon witnessing the smoke, promptly came forward to assist. They first removed the gas cylinder from the house and then used a pump set motor to control the fire and prevent further spread.
Upon receiving the information, HESCOM personnel swiftly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
