Kumta: A fatal accident occurred on Saturday night near Hunmao Cross on NH 66 in Kumta, resulting in the death of a bike rider and injuries to eight passengers after a Toofan car collided with the bike.

The deceased has been identified as Lambodara Nagesh Uppara (28), a resident of Siddanabavi in Kumta town. Uppara was traveling from Alvekodi to Kumta, while the Toofan vehicle was traveling from Gadag to Mangalore when the collision took place.

According to sources, the accident occurred on a slope near Hunmao Cross in the town. The impact of the collision caused the Toofan vehicle to overturn, resulting in serious injuries to the eight passengers, including the driver. All injured individuals were immediately shifted to Kumta government hospital.

The Kumta police promptly arrived at the accident site and transferred the injured persons to the government hospital. Subsequently, they were further taken to Manipal Hospital.

A case has been registered regarding this incident at the Kumta Police Station.
