Mangaluru: Customs authorities made a significant gold seizure, valuing Rs 58.78 lakh, at Mangaluru airport on April 11. The interception occurred during the inspection of a passenger arriving from Dammam.

812 grams of gold were discovered concealed within the passenger's body. Initially detected by a routine metal detector scan, officials pinpointed the metal to the passenger's waist area. Subsequent investigation revealed three spherical objects containing gold paste hidden within the passenger's rectum. Through a meticulous extraction process involving heat, 812 grams of pure 24-carat gold were recovered.

The individual responsible for the smuggling attempt has been apprehended and presented before the court for further legal proceedings.
