Bhatkal: Heavy rain continued in Bhatkal from morning to evening on Sunday, causing rivers and canals to overflow. Many low-lying and upper areas have been inundated. There is concern among residents due to persistent waterlogging, especially at Ranginkatte NH66, Shamsuddin circle and Sagar Road, which are elevated parts of the town.

The traffic system has been severely affected by knee-deep water accumulation on Ranginkatta National Highway. Police personnel had to be deployed in the evening to restore traffic.

Due to the heavy rain since morning, Bhatkal's old bus stand, Main Road, Marikatta Road, Basti Road, and even Mankuli Road were submerged, severely impacting normal life.

Although water begins to recede once the rain stops, on Sunday, the rain persisted, causing prolonged waterlogging in many areas.

In view of the heavy rain, the district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Bhatkal, as well as in the neighboring taluks of Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola, and Karwar, on Monday, July 8.

A wall of a house at Azad Nagar 6th Cross in Jalipatan Panchayat limits collapsed due to the heavy rain. Similarly, one house each collapsed in Bengere, Shirali, Kaikini, Heble, and Mundali. Additionally, a tree fell on a house in Shirali, collapsing its roof.

Today's heavy rain caused waterlogging in more than a hundred houses, including many in Mankuli, Mundali, Shirali, Bhangre, and several surrounding houses near the National Highway, resulting in damages worth lakhs. Crops worth millions have also been destroyed due to water accumulation in fields and gardens.

The already dilapidated roads have worsened due to the heavy rains, causing concern among residents about when these roads will be repaired.
