Patna: In a historic moment, Nitish Kumar took the oath as Bihar's chief minister for an unprecedented ninth time, following his resignation from the RJD-JD(U) government.

The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of notable figures like Jitan Ram Manjhi, Chirag Paswan, Samrat Chaudhary, and JP Nadda. Amidst chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Jai Shree Ram, Kumar assumed office.

The last instance of Nitish Kumar taking the chief ministerial oath occurred in 2022 when he distanced himself from the NDA and allied with the RJD, Congress, and the Left in Bihar.

Between 2022 and 2024, Kumar played a pivotal role in uniting opposition parties against the BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Notably, in June 2023, he organized the initial opposition meeting that eventually adopted the name INDIA.

Here are the top 10 developments surrounding Nitish Kumar's ninth oath-taking:

On Sunday, along with Nitish Kumar, BJP's Samrat Choudhury and Vijay Sinha were sworn in. HAM will also play a role in the new government, with Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) president Dr. Santosh Kumar Suman taking the oath. Nitish Kumar announced Samrat Chaudhury and Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy CMs.

In a significant shift of political dynamics in Bihar, RJD ministers were excluded from the cabinet overnight.

Tejashwi Yadav remarked that 2024 marks the JD(U)'s end, emphasizing that the political game in Bihar is far from over.

Political strategist Prashant Kishor predicted a brief alliance between Nitish and the BJP, foreseeing changes within six months after the Lok Sabha election. Kishor expressed doubt that, regardless of Nitish's alliances, he would not secure more than 20 seats in the 2025 state election.

Akhilesh Yadav criticized Nitish Kumar, calling his move a record of betrayal and highlighting the perceived vulnerability of the BJP.

Nitish Kumar's political journey started in 2000 when he became CM, opposing the RJD. In 2013, he left the NDA and aligned with the RJD in the 2015 elections.

In 2017, Nitish Kumar severed ties with the RJD and returned to the NDA. However, in 2022, he once again left the NDA and rejoined the RJD.

As Nitish Kumar resigned on Sunday morning, he cited issues within the INDIA bloc, indicating dissatisfaction.

The Congress acknowledged awareness of the situation in Bihar but refrained from commenting earlier to maintain INDIA bloc interests. Responding to JD(U)'s claims of disrespect, the Congress asserted that Nitish Kumar, if willing, could have stayed, but he opted to join the NDA. Earlier, the Congress stated that Mallikarjun Kharge attempted to reach Nitish Kumar without success.

Kharge contended that Nitish's switch was pre-planned, keeping the Congress and RJD leadership uninformed.
