The heavy rains have been persistent across the Uttara Kannada district, including Bhatkal, for the past 10-15 days, creating challenging conditions for residents in the Sahyadri mountains.

Manjunath Kuppiah Naik, a resident of Halyani, suffered significant losses as his plantation was decimated. The storm's fierce winds, which struck around 6 pm on Friday, tore through his one-acre and twelve-gunta plot, reducing coconut and areca nut trees to splinters.

The storm also inflicted severe damage on the property of Mangala Gonda, whose house and nut plantation were badly affected. Similarly, the homes and gardens of Annappa Narayan Naik, Ganapathi Narayan Naik, and Nagesh Narayan Naik were damaged, adding to the community's distress.

The continuous rain and the recent storm have exacerbated the plight of the people living in the Sahyadri mountains, leaving them in a precarious situation. The local authorities are expected to assess the damage and provide necessary assistance to the affected families in the coming days.
