Mangaluru: Senior Congress leader and former chief minister M. Veerappa Moily accused the Union Government of insincerity in its approach towards women's issues, asserting that tabling the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha was nothing more than shedding crocodile tears.

During a press conference held on Saturday, at the Congress office in Mallikatte, Moily pointed out that if the Union Government genuinely cared about women's rights, it would not have delayed the introduction of the bill for so long.

Moily emphasized that gender bias in the country has been on the rise, citing numerous incidents that have threatened the nation's diversity. He also raised concerns about the endangerment of 42 languages and claimed that poverty and economic inequality have worsened over the past nine years.

Regarding the BJP-JD(S) alliance, Moily predicted that it would prove disadvantageous for the BJP rather than beneficial. He asserted that the Congress had learned valuable lessons from such political arrangements.

In addition, Moily expressed his desire to run as a candidate in the Chikkaballapur constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Dakshina Kannada District Congress President Harish Kumar, former MLA J.R. Lobo, former MLC Ivan D’Souza, and many others were present.
