Yellapur: The prospect of BJP's sitting MLA and former minister Shivram Hebbar rejoining the mother party Congress appears to have hit a roadblock, reportedly due to the resistance posed by a powerful Congress leaders in the district. News has circulated that despite expectations, Hebbar's reunion with Congress has encountered opposition from a prominent local Congress figure.

According to sources, news surfaced regarding the potential reentry of Shivram Hebbar, the BJP MLA representing Yellapur Assembly Constituency in Uttara Kannada District, into the Congress fold. This development met with strong resistance from RV Deshpande, a influential leader in the district, and Bhimanna Naik, the MLA from the Sirsi Constituency. Consequently, what was expected to be a warm reception for Hebbar has now encountered a setback in his bid to join the Congress. Insider information suggests that both Shivram Hebbar and ST Somashekhar might make the switch to Congress on Monday.

Sources indicate that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar initiated discussions for the "Operation Congress," but Chief Minister Siddaramaiah did not endorse this course of action. Furthermore, due to the dissatisfaction expressed by MLAs from Uttar Kannada regarding Hebbar's potential Congress affiliation, Siddaramaiah's enthusiasm for Hebbar's move has also waned.

It is worth noting that certain BJP leaders had allegedly attempted to undermine Shivram Hebbar's prospects during the recent assembly elections. In response, Hebbar communicated his grievances to the state's high command, although no concrete steps were taken in response. Hebbar had earlier voiced his discontent and hinted at possible consequential actions if the matter remained unresolved. Currently, it is understood that he has given the high command a two-month ultimatum to address the issue, specifically targeting those who had worked against him within the BJP, as the opposition from Congress leaders intensifies.

Should the BJP's high command fail to act within the stipulated two-month window, Hebbar's next course of action remains an intriguing point of speculation. The unfolding dynamics promise a significant decision from Hebbar in the upcoming months.
