Mangaluru: District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundurao emphasized the government's commitment to the holistic development of rural areas in the district. Various programs have been initiated to improve basic infrastructure in these regions.
Gundurao conveyed this message while hoisting the flag at the Kannada Rajyotsava event organized by the district administration at Nehru Maidan in the city on November 1, 2023.
Dakshina Kannada known for its religious and tourist attractions, is also a focus area for the government in terms of improving housing and educational opportunities. A comprehensive plan has been launched to further develop the district. The minister highlighted that the government is prioritizing basic amenities to provide a better experience for tourists visiting the district's popular tourist spots.
Gundurao stated that the government has successfully brought relief to struggling individuals, with 3.44 lakh beneficiaries registered in the Dakshina Kannada district under the Grihalakshmi Yojana. Each beneficiary is receiving a monthly allowance of two thousand rupees. The minister also assured that efforts are being made to address technical issues hindering the disbursement of benefits.
Under the Annabhagya Yojana, there are 248 thousand beneficiaries in the district. A total of Rs 17.30 crore has been disbursed to them via cash transfers. Direct deposit into their bank accounts has brought relief to the underprivileged. The minister also lauded the Shakti scheme for empowering women and promoting their dignity. In Dakshina Kannada district, 183 thousand women have benefited from this initiative, traveling for free on Mangalore and Puttur KSSARTC units, with a total cost of Rs 6,072 lakh.
Gundurao provided details about various ongoing projects in the district, including the approval of the multi-village drinking water project. Projects in Kinnigoli, Maravoor, Karopadi, Sangabettu, Mani Sarapadi, and Narikombu are expected to be completed soon.
The minister emphasized the government's commitment not only to the enrichment of the Kannada language but also to the promotion of the literature and culture of Tulu, Konkani, and Bari languages.
Earlier in the day, a procession took place from Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan, featuring a portrait of Kannada Bhubaneswari and a still image of Kuvempu's statue.
After the flag hoisting, the district in-charge minister observed the parade from an open vehicle. Bhuvaneshwari Devi and Kuvempu stills were also part of the procession. The Ennesses team secured the first prize, and the Bharat Seva Dal received the second prize for their exceptional performance in the Path Sanchal.
Additionally, symbolic distribution of appointment letters to civic workers under direct payment in the corporation, identity cards to pushcart street vendors, and certificates for pushcart traders took place.
