Bengaluru (PTI): The Karnataka cabinet has given a nod to a Union government proposal to resume mining activities on 13 tailing dumps associated with Bharat Gold Mines Limited (BGML) in Kolar district.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil announced this, stating that the approval comes under the Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Amendment Act's section 17. The decision aims to kickstart employment and economic activities in the area.

The state government has also requested the transfer of 2,330 acres from the defunct BGML for an industrial township. Other notable cabinet decisions include infrastructure development, special police stations for SC/ST atrocities, and free utilities for government schools.
