Bhatkal: One person was killed and his wife was injured when the Maruti Omni van they were traveling in collided with a private bus coming from the opposite direction on Gersuppa Highway in Honnavar taluk. The accident occurred on Friday evening around 4 pm.

The deceased has been identified as Syed Abdul Wajid (40), a resident of Bhatkal Makhdoom Colony. His wife, Gulshan Ara, was injured in the accident and has been admitted to Honnavar Government Hospital.

According to sources, Abdul Wajid, who returned to Bhatkal about 28 days ago from Dubai, was planning to go back to Dubai in the next few days. He was traveling to his native village Shiralkoppa in Shimoga district via Gersuppa National Highway with his wife to meet his brothers and sisters.

His Omni collided with a private bus coming from the opposite direction. Both Abdul Wajid and his wife were injured in the collision. They were rushed to Honnavar Government Hospital, where Abdul Wajid's critical condition was noted, and an attempt was made to transfer him to Udupi Hospital. However, it is reported that Abdul Wajid succumbed to his injuries before reaching Udupi Hospital around 6 pm.

It has been found that the body is being brought from Udupi to Bhatkal.

Sources said that the late Abdul Wajid is survived by six children, including three sons. It has also been reported that his injured wife is out of danger.
