Mangaluru: Udayan Vajpayee, a renowned Hindi poet and critic scholar, emphasized that the languages, cultures, and arts of different regions of India serve as the foundation of the country's unity. He expressed these views while inaugurating the two-day 25th All India Konkani Literary Conference, organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Konkani Parishad on Saturday at the Basti Vamana Shenai stage of the World Konkani Centre, Shaktinagar.
Vajpayee stated that languages from various regions of India have amalgamated with each other over time. He emphasized that the coexistence of these diverse languages ensures that individuals do not feel alienated, even when they lack awareness and knowledge of a particular language.
Paying tribute to Karnataka's esteemed literary figure and Jnanpith awardee, Dr. U.R. Ananta Murthy, Vajpayee acknowledged that writers, through their powerful narratives, continue to demonstrate the courage to present truth before society.
He underscored the vital role of literature and art in promoting moral consciousness, emphasizing that through creative expression, the condemnation of violence and hatred can be upheld. Vajpayee further highlighted the indispensable role of literature and arts in nurturing creativity, a feat that science and technology alone cannot achieve.
Notable recipients of the Sahitya Akademi awards were also honored during the event.
Prior to the inauguration ceremony, a procession was held.
