Mangaluru: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Priyank Kharge, took a proactive approach on Wednesday by instructing officials to initiate measures aimed at averting a potential water crisis during the upcoming summer months. The directive was given during a review meeting organized by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department at the Netravati Hall on the premises of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat (DKZP).
In discussions focused on preventing a drought-like situation in Dakshina Kannada district, Kharge emphasized the urgency of implementing preventive measures. Chief Executive Officer of DK Zilla Panchayat, Dr. Anand K, highlighted that, traditionally, 16 villages in the district have been susceptible to drought-like conditions. However, this year, additional villages have been identified as facing a heightened risk of water scarcity.
In response to the prevailing situation, Minister Kharge further directed officials to formulate comprehensive contingency plans to effectively address and mitigate the potential impact of a drought-like scenario in the district.
