Mangaluru: The Karnataka State Minorities Commission Abdul Azeem has recommended to the state government to set up a regional office in Mangaluru to protect wakf properties in coastal districts.
The regional office will help prevent people from having to travel to Bengaluru or Mysuru for wakf-related work. The commission has also recommended that the government set up a district-level task force to protect wakf properties.
Abdul Azeem has also asked the police to set up peace committees at the mohalla level, comprising respected members of the community, to work with the police to maintain peace and harmony in communally sensitive areas.
Abdul Azeem has expressed concern about the increasing drug menace in the state and has called for a thorough investigation into the issue.
During a grievances meeting, representatives of minority communities asked the commission to increase budgetary allocations for minorities. The commission said it would look into the matter.
Abdul Azeem also expressed concern about the reduction of scholarship amounts for students from minority communities. It has recommended to the government to identify beneficiaries through a lottery system instead of leaving it to the discretion of MLAs.
The commission's recommendations are aimed at improving the lives of minority communities in Karnataka.
