Mangalore: Zubaida and her son Harshad from Indabettu village near Mangalore are yet to receive their Aadhaar cards due to the absence of distinct lines on their hands. This has resulted in their inability to access government facilities, including a ration card.
As reported by the Kannada daily Vartha Bharathi, Zubaida and her son were visibly distressed today as they stood in tears outside the District Collector's office.
Since the inception of the Aadhaar program, this family has been struggling to navigate the complex registration process. Despite their attempts to seek assistance from local authorities and the District Collector, there has been no significant progress in issuing their Aadhaar cards. The lack of Aadhaar identification has even hindered their ability to secure a ration card. Jayarama Gowda, a local Congress leader, highlighted this urgent situation to the District Collector, underscoring the family's current deprivation of benefits from programs such as Anna bhagya and Gruha Lakshmi scheme, along with other vital government provisions.
In a swift response to this critical issue, District Collector Mullai Muhilan promptly engaged with officials from the Aadhaar department. He emphasized the necessity of expediting the process of issuing Aadhaar cards to Zubaida and Harshad, recognizing the distinct nature of their case.
Mullai Muhilan elaborated that it's entirely plausible to provide them with Aadhaar cards if the Collector acknowledges their unique circumstances and issues a special certificate. He reassured that he will take immediate action to promptly address this matter.
