Bhatkal: In preparation for Ganesh Chaturthi, which is set to be celebrated in the taluk on September 18, a peace meeting of leaders from various communities convened at the Bhatkal Rural Police Station on Wednesday.
Presiding over the meeting, Bhatkal Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police, K. Shirkanth, urged the public to observe the festival with enthusiasm while adhering strictly to the law. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of all participants during the Ganesh procession and advised promptly notifying the police of any issues that may arise.
Providing essential guidelines, he outlined the mandatory rules to be followed by Ganesh Utsav Committees, which include a ban on the use of loudspeakers by DJs to prevent excessive noise pollution. He further clarified that, with prior permission from the police, microphones and speakers may be utilized for the occasion. However, the use of DJs will not be permitted, in accordance with directives from the Supreme Court.
DySP Shrikant clarified that no new restrictions are being imposed by the police department and underscored the necessity of public cooperation with law enforcement to maintain order and ensure a peaceful celebration of the festival.
Rural Police Inspector Gopal Chandan, who welcomed the leaders at the peace meeting, encouraged organizers to consider installing CCTV cameras at various points along the Ganesh procession route. He also offered additional suggestions and urged for a peaceful celebration of the festival, emphasizing that in case of any disturbances, the police should be contacted.

Hescom Section Officer (Rural) Shekhar Pujari, Chief Officer of Jali Pattan Panchayat Manjappa, along with various other police officials and leaders from different communities were present at the meeting.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday, a peace meeting was also organized by the Bhatkal Town Police Station at Urban Bank Hall, where District Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan from Karwar attended and addressed the leaders.
