Bhatkal: Even before the implementation of the Election Code of Conduct by the Election Commission in Karnataka, vehicle checks have been started at the border checkposts of Karnataka state and districts. In a fresh incident, during the checking of vehicles at Sarpankatta check post in Bhatkal, it has been reported that around 11 kg of silver was seized from a car.
Police said that 10.82 kg of silver was recovered from a car which was being transported from one place to another without any documents.
In this connection, the police have arrested Umesh Janardhan Acharya (39) and Ravi Sheena Acharya (37), both resident of Udupi. The cost of silver has been estimated at around 7.5 lakh rupees.
A case has been registered at Bhatkal Town Police Station and PSI Diwakar Rai is investigating.
