Mangaluru: Ronald Lobo, a Junior Engineer stationed at the PWD Office in Bondel, Mangaluru, was caught in a bribery scandal by the Lokayukta while accepting illegal payments from a contractor.
The detained Junior Engineer, identified as Ronald Lobo, was involved in a corrupt practice with Prabhaker Naik, a Class 2 contractor of the PWD. Naik had recently overseen developmental projects worth Rs 45 lakhs in the SC/ ST Colony across two villages in Belthangady.
Naik sought an official report from the PWD, Lobo, an Engineer from the Quality Assurances Division, purportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 22,000. Refusing to succumb to the illicit demand, Prabhaker reported the incident to the Lokayukta.
On Wednesday, when Prabhaker attempted to deliver the bribe, Lokayukta officials successfully apprehended the engineer.
