Bhatkal: Diesel tank of a speeding lorry bound for Goa toppled onto the highway, causing its contents to spill onto the road. As a result, motorcycles following the lorry skidded and fell. This incident unfolded on Friday at 8:30 pm in Nawayat Colony, along City Light National Highway 66 in Bhatkal.
According to an eyewitness, the ordeal began when a portion of the lorry's tank made contact with the road, igniting sparks. The lorry continued for approximately a hundred meters, during which the entire diesel tank, presumably carrying around 200 liters, fell to the ground, averting an immediate blaze.
The spilled diesel caused motorcycles following the lorry to lose control on the road, resulting in three consecutive bike accidents before the police arrived at the scene. Subsequently, a section of the highway was temporarily closed, and the fire brigade quickly responded.
Notably, local social workers pitched in, retrieving sandbags from their residences and placing them on the road to prevent further motorcycle accidents.
