Mangaluru: Three person was arrested by CCB sleuths in Mangaluru as they attempted to sell 'ambergris,' a prohibited marine substance commonly known as whale's vomit or grey amber, valued at Rs 1,57,50,000.
The arrested were identified as Pyarejan, also known as Shetu (37), residing in Mangilapadavu in Vittal in Bantwal taluk; Badruddin, also known as Badru (28) from Mangilapadavu, and Rajesh R (22) from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.
Acting on a tip-off near a private hospital in Pumpwell, the arrest was made, and the authorities confiscated 1.575 kg of ambergris along with a car and three mobile phones, bringing the total seized property value to Rs 1,62,80,000, according to Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal.
The raid was conducted under the guidance of DCP (law and order) Siddarth Goyal and DCP (crime and traffic) Dinesh Kumar by the CCB team led by ACP P A Hegde.
