Dandeli: A tragic incident unfolded in Dandeli where a woman, reportedly distressed by her husband's constant disputes over their disabled child, threw her son into a crocodile-infested river. The body of the six-year-old boy was recovered on Sunday morning following the event on Saturday night.
Ravi Kumar and Savitri, who reside in a rented house, have two sons, the elder of whom was mute and six years old, and a healthy two-and-a-half-year-old boy. According to Savitri, her husband Ravi frequently quarreled with her about the older child, questioning why she had given birth to him and suggesting that she should "throw him away." Allegedly, following another intense argument on Saturday night about the child, a distressed Savitri took her son Vinod and threw him into a nearby waterway.
Upon discovery of the incident, neighbors quickly alerted the police. Dandeli rural police, along with local volunteers, initiated a search for the child. Despite their efforts and the involvement of divers, they were unable to locate him until the following morning. The recovery was grim as the child’s body was found with significant injuries, including a missing hand and other bite marks, indicative of crocodile attacks.
Both parents, Ravi Kumar and Savitri, have been taken into custody as the police investigate the heartbreaking incident.
