Udupi: In the aftermath of the horrific incident in Nejaru, Udupi, where four members of a family were brutally massacred, the accused, Praveen Arun Chowgule (39), was presented before the Udupi Principal Civil and JMFC Court by the police.
The court, presided over by Judge Deepa, ordered the accused to be remanded in judicial custody for a period of 14 days.
Praveen had been initially taken into police custody for 14 days on November 15 for further investigation into the grave charges against him.
However, considering the swift completion of the investigative processes, including location inquiry, witness statements, and establishing the identity of the accused within a week, it was deemed unnecessary to keep him in custody until the initially scheduled date of November 28.
Recognizing this, the police, under tight security measures, brought Praveen before the court ahead of schedule.
Inspector Manjunath, the investigating officer from the Malpe Police station, presented the case before the Udupi Principal Civil and JMFC Court.
Judge Deepa, after due consideration, directed that the accused be in judicial custody for the next 14 days, setting the next court appearance for December 5th.
Senior Assistant Public Prosecutor HM Nadaf was present during the proceedings.
Following the court's decision, Praveen was securely transported to the district jail.
