Bhatkal: Unseasonal rain hit Bhatkal on Saturday evening, beginning at 8:05 PM and continuing until 8:50 PM.
The coastal regions of Karnataka experienced extreme heat throughout the day, leading to surprise and confusion when the rain began abruptly. Many people who were in the markets or heading home around 8 PM found themselves stranded.
The sudden rain brought temporary relief from the sweltering heat, but it also raised concerns among the residents about a potential increase in temperatures following the unseasonal weather.

The evening's disturbances started with stormy winds at exactly eight o'clock, which preceded the rain and led to a power outage. The winds were so strong that they knocked down scooters and bikes parked along the roadsides in many areas. An auto-rickshaw driver reported that he had to pull over due to the wind's intensity, and the power cut occurred shortly thereafter.
It is reported that before the rains reached Bhatkal, brief showers occurred in Gangoli, Byndoor, and Shirur. The rainfall in Bhatkal lasted about 45 minutes before ceasing.
Locals have expressed concerns over the intense heat felt throughout the day, with temperatures officially at 32 degrees Celsius but feeling more like 34 degrees. The unseasonal rain has now led to fears of even higher temperatures to come.
Regarding the electricity outage, a Hescom department officer explained that the power was temporarily cut as a precautionary measure due to the stormy conditions. Electricity will be restored once the weather clears.
On Friday, after a day of intense heat, areas including Hubli, Mundgod, Yellapur, and Haliyal experienced rainfall. Unfortunately, some places also reported livestock fatalities due to lightning strikes during the showers.
