Mysuru/Bengaluru: The Indian Railways Department has announced plans to fill 60,000 positions this year, with the option for Karnataka candidates to take exams in Kannada, according to Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways, V. Somanna.
At the event held at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) Science Auditorium, over 51,000 appointment letters were distributed to selected candidates. In his address, Minister Somanna highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Employment Scheme, which has issued appointment letters to more than 1.4 million individuals over 12 rounds of the “Rozgar Mela” since 2014, creating employment opportunities for talented youth across India. The railways alone have provided 520,000 jobs in mission mode since 2014.
He added that recruitment is also underway in the Postal Department, with significant expansion driven by PM Modi’s welfare schemes, such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat for healthcare, and initiatives like Mudra Yojana and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. For the development of the AIISH, the Central Government has allocated INR 150 crore to facilitate the institute's growth.
In the same event, MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar expressed that in the past decade, PM Modi has laid the foundation for a developed India with an ambitious goal set for 2047. Several government departments are contributing to this progress through initiatives promoting employment and national development. He encouraged everyone to support the vision of a prosperous India.
Dignitaries attending the event included MLA Srivatsa, South Karnataka Postal Division Director Sandesh Mahadevappa, DRM Shilpi Agarwal of the Railway Department, AIISH Director Pushpavati, and South India’s Postmaster General Manager Chandrashekhar Kakumani.
