Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) K. Lakshmi Priya has directed health department officials to conduct regular inspections of all scanning centers in the district to ensure the strict enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act. These inspections aim to prevent illegal prenatal sex determination and ensure compliance with the law.
Chairing a meeting of the District Appropriate Authority for the implementation of the PCPNDT Act at the District Commissioner's office on Thursday, Lakshmi Priya emphasized the need for constant vigilance. She urged members of the district's inspection and monitoring committee to regularly inspect the 71 registered scanning centers operating under the PCPNDT Act. The inspections should verify that all centers are adhering to legal precautions, maintaining proper records, and displaying awareness boards prohibiting sex determination.
Lakshmi Priya also instructed officials to ensure that the scanning machines in government hospitals across the district are properly used and maintained so that the public can access these services efficiently.
The meeting was attended by District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Neeraj, District Surgeon Dr. Shivanand, Family Welfare Officer Dr. Annapurna, District Information Officer B. Shivakumar, pediatrician Dr. Vishwanath, radiologist Dr. Yuvraj, advocate Maruti, and Saanthvana Janaseva Kendra representative Srikant Mahadev Naik.
