Puttur: A veteran Congress leader and former president of undivided Dakshina Kannda district Zilla Parishad breathed his last on 7th February, Wednesday at a hospital in Mangaluru.
The deceased is B Sankappa Rai (85yrs) of Bellipady family s/o late Perne Mayila Rai and late Laxmi Rai, resident of Kombettu here.
Rai was active in political field since the year 1970. He got elected to the Zilla Parishad in 1985 and then decided to join politics. He was a cousin of the district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai.
Rai was unmarried and used to live with his sister’s grandson at Kombettu here. He was admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru due to his medical condition due to which he had left politics 12 years ago. He breathed his last on Wednesday.
Rai has also been the president of KSRTC Federation Union and the district Congress committee.
Rai’s funeral was held at Neltottu in Anantady and various ministers, MPs and MLAs have rendered their condolences towards the death of this great leader.
