Karwar: AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Uttara Kannada district in the last week of November to participate in a state-level convention of fishermen said Rama Moger, district committee president of Akhila Bharata Fishermen Congress Committee.

He told reporters that the convention will be held either in Kumta or Murdeshwar after Rahul’s security personnel finalize the place. “We will force him to waive the loans borrowed by fishermen from the cooperative banks in the state,” he said.

There are 30 lakh fishermen across the state and the community is one of the most backward. Therefore the state government should include them in ST category, he added.
