Karwar: Muslims celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of holy month of Ramzan, with religious fervour and solemnity across the district, on Saturday.

Clad in festive finery white kurta-pyjama and white skull cap, Muslims offered mass prayers at Kajubagh Gofari Jamiya Masid in Karwar and later exchanged greetings.

The Islam faithfuls recited verses of Holy Quran after the special prayer.

They exchanged Eid greetings with traditional hugs.

Like every year, special prayers were organised at Furqan Mosque at 7:15 am as part of the festival.

Peace, harmony

Speaking on the occasion Maulana Munir Mohammed Sharif said, Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan, during which the faithfuls observe fasting from dawn to dusk and recite Quran.

He said Eid symbolises peace and communal harmony. He said Muslims should offer donations to the poor during this month long fasting and walk on the religious lines.

He said it is the responsibility of rich to make sure that even the poor celebrate the festival in meaningful manner.

Principles of Quran

He called upon Muslims to follow the principles preached in Quran and help in propagation of peace and tranquillity in the world.

Several other mosques across the district celebrated the festival with religious fervour.
