Rs 15 lakh unaccounted cash seized in Joida; 2 arrested

Karwar: An unaccounted cash amount of around 15 lakh rupees were seized by the static surveillance team on Monday night, when it was being transported from Goa to Hyderabad at Anmod Checkpoint, in Joida taluk in Uttar-Kannada district.

The accused has been identified as Jellal Anjaneya of Hyderabad and Nakali Vimal of Belagavi. They have been arrested and the investigation is on.

The accused claimed that the cash was won in a casino in Goa. However, they could not produce any documents related to their claim. The cash has been seized as they were transporting such a huge cash without any authentic documents, officials said.

The cash has been shifted to district treasury and the income tax department has been informed about it and the department will soon take up the investigation, informed Additional Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal.
