Saffron brigade threaten protest against naming park after Stan Swamy

Mangaluru: The pro-Hindu outfits have threatened to stage a protest against St Aloysius College management to name a park after Father Stan Swamy, whom they call Urban Naxal.

The saffron brigade has vehemently opposed the decision of the college management alleging that Swamy played a role in Bhima Koregoan violence.

Swamy is no more as he died while in jail.

VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell said that Swamy was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and to name a park after him is an insult to social system.

This act amounts to indirectly challenging the national unity, he said.

Pumpwell also said the college management will be held responsible if any untoward incident takes place after they failed to comply to their demands.

The saffron brigade is planning to petition to the office the Deputy Commissioner.

They also said that they do not have any objections if the management names the park after former union minister Oscar Fernandes or George Fernandes who have contributed immensely to the country.

They said they would not have any problem if Swamy's name comes out clean in the pending cases.

The college management has decided to hold discussions to chalk out future course of action.
