Joida: Gunda forest officials arrested a poacher, who allegedly killed a sambar deer by hanging for its meat at Jamagali village of Joida taluk on Wednesday.

Ranger of Gunda Gajanan Hegde said Alex Minin Fernandes (28) along with Maruti Babli Kuttikar and Narayan Kusta Savarkar had killed a sambar deer for meat. Based on a tip off, the officials conducted a ride on Alex’s house at Jamagali village and seized the meat and the utensils used for cooking the meat. Other two managed to escape from the spot.

Alex was produced before the court, which remanded him in judicial custody. The forest officials are searching for the other two accused.
