Karwar: BJP leader Nagaraj Nayak has challenged sitting MLA Satish Sail to provide details of funds he has brought for development of the district.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Nayak charged that Sail is lying and cheating people saying he has brought Rs 1,600 crore for development of Karwar-Ankola.

Nayak asked Sail to inform people about projects that have been sanctioned for the constituency and how much funds have been sanctioned for them.

“The main important question is what is the current status of those projects?”

He said the MLA is claiming that funds have been for development of various roads, but on the ground, the fact is that no road has been developed. A road asphalted two months ago has started to give way, speaking of the quality of work.

He claimed that contractors are being harassed by ‘percentage ghost’. The MLA has share of 15% to 20% in a project. After all deduction and commission adjustment, project is left with only 25% to 30% for completion. “How can one expect quality with such low allotment of funds,” he said.

He said, Eagle Company, blacklisted in Haveri district for not completing the projects, has, however, been assigned to complete Prime Minister Rural Road Yojana, in Uttara Kannada district.

He questioned why a blacklisted company was selected. “MLA has selected the company for profit,” he charged and added that there is a need for an investigation into the matter.

“Every time we question MLA Sail, it is Shambu Shetty who has been giving justification.

First of all, Shetty is not for this district and he has very little knowledge about politics of the district. It seems as if Sail has given power of attorney to Shetty to disperse responsibility of MLA,” he said adding if Shetty so desires one can discuss his ‘deeds’ too.

BJP leaders Manoj Bhat, Bhaskar Narvekar, Nandu goankar, Maruthi Naik, Ramachandra Hegde and others were present on the occasion.
