Haliyal: Robbers broken into two houses of government officers and made away with gold ornaments and cash in Anegundi Layout, in Haliyal, on Tuesday early morning.

According to police officials, the thieves first gained entry into the house of LIC Development Officer Manjunath Shastry in the early hours of Tuesday, breaking open the interlock system. They first searched the entire house before attacking Manjunath and his wife, Deepa, daughter Manasi and son Vashista who were asleep in their bedroom.

Police said the robbers made away with property worth Rs 4 lakh including 180 gm of gold ornaments and two mobile phones. The robbers also spirited away the two wheeler that was parked outside the house.

According to Manjunath the thieves spoke in Hindi.

Manjunath sustained a head injury and is receiving treatment at a government hospital.

Later, the robbers gained entry into the house of Minor Irrigation Department officer Saiyd Shabuddin Akhil and made away with 15 gm of gold ornaments and Rs 20,000 from the house, with the owner out of town.

Superintendent of police visited both places and instructed officials to crack the case at the earliest.
