Puttur: Wild elephant attacks Car on highway; 7 hurt, 1 serious

Mangaluru: Around seven people travelling in a Omni car were injured after a wild elephant attacked their car on Uppinangady state highway in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 23. One person among the injured is reported serious, whereas the car has been damaged badly.

According to the reports, Maruti Omni was heading towards Subramanya from Dharmastala during the incident. When the car approached CPCRI at Belineli, a wild elephant was observed crossing the road. The incident had an ugly turn, when the driver stopped the car nearby to the elephant, after which the elephant started attacking the car with its trunk. Luckily, the people in the car were saved when a bus arrived at the moment. Seeing the elephant attacking the car, the bus driver started blowing a continuous horn of the bus, due to which the elephant fled the scene and returned back to the forest. By the time, the people in the car were already injured and the car was severely damaged.

Locals said that the situation of the people in the car would have been very dangerous if at all the bus haven't arrived at the moment.
