Briefing reporters here, on Thursday, he said, voters elected him by giving the highest votes in the district’s history. This had increased the responsibility on him. He said, he obtained information regarding the power supply problems in the constituency within 15 days after he got elected.

Shetty said, the government had already released Rs 3 crore for supplying water to Kumata from Sharavati river. The works would be initiated after discussing with the Forest Department. The departments concerned would be taken into confidence before taking up the work, he added.

Bypass necessary

Shetty said, construction of bypass to the National Highway 66 in Kumta was not possible at present. But the bypass would be necessary for the town in the days to come. He hoped that the bypass wold help develop the town.

Reacting to a question that the previous MLA had brought Rs 1,000 crore grant for the constituency, Shetty said, when he was MLA last time he had spent just Rs 1 crore for every km of road laid here.

But the previous MLA had spent Rs 3 crore for every km of road. Compared to this amount, the grant he (Shetty) had brought crossed Rs 900 crore.
