Bhatkal: A tragic car accident near Hejini, close to Mavinagundi in Siddapur Taluk, claimed the life of an art teacher and left five others injured. The teachers were traveling from Bhatkal to Davanagere on Wednesday afternoon for art grade evaluations when their vehicle met with the accident.
Manjunath Devadiga (48), a passenger in the car, lost his life on the spot. According to sources, the car carrying six art teachers veered off the road near a turn at Hejini after the driver lost control. The vehicle overturned and collided with a tree, resulting in the fatal incident.
The injured teachers—Sandeep Shetty, Narayan Moger, Channaveerappa Hosmani, Sadiq Shaikh, and Mahesh Naik—were immediately rushed to Siddapur Taluk Hospital for initial treatment. They were later referred to other hospitals for advanced care. Channaveerappa Hosmani reportedly sustained a back injury during the accident.
Recounting the incident, Channaveerappa said, “The car was moving through Siddapur when it failed to navigate a sharp turn, skidded off the road, and fell down. Everyone inside the car, including myself, sustained injuries.”
