Sirsi/Kumta: The violence hit towns of Uttar-Kannada district, Kumta and Sirsi have limped back to normalcy from Wednesday.

The educational institutes opened and buses are plying as usual. Shops remained open for business since morning. The police force has been deployed at every nook and corner of these towns observing the precautionary measure.

Violence broke out on Monday in Kumta, and Tuesday in Sirsi, when BJP and Hindu Jagaran Vedike and Bajrang Dal activists took out protests demanding a thorough investigation into the suspicious death of Hindu activist Paresh Mesta whose body was found in Honnavar recently.

The protests were staged despite prohibitory orders clamped in the district. The protest march turned violent when police tried to prevent the march from proceeding.

The unruly mob pelted stones at the police and set police vehicles on fire.

The police had resorted to lathi charge, tear gas shells and even firing in the air to quell the mob.
