Mangaluru: A political leader and known social worker died due to cardiac arrest while addressing a programme here on 24th January, Wednesday.
The deceased is Hameed Kandak (72) who was a known leader of Muslim community and a forefront of several social movements.
According to sources, Hameed was addressing a gathering organised by AHINDA district unit at the Hotel Woodland here in order to mark the Republic day when he collapsed due to a heart attack. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but he could not make it. He was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Hameed has served as a member of All-India Hajj Committee and also as the vice-president of Dakshina Kannada Muslim Central Committee. He was also an active Congress member.
Kandak left behind his wife and five kids. His funeral was held at the Central Juma masjid premises on 25th January, Thursday.
