Karwar: MLC Kota Srinivas Pujari has asked Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil to review the attempt to murder complaint filed against Honnavar BJP leader Suraj Naik Soni and release him from their custody.
He noted this while speaking to media persons after his visit to the SP office in Karwar on Friday.
Srinivas Pujari said, Suraj was not involved in the gang of cow vigilantes who assaulted some youths while illegally transporting cow at Karki Naka.
He was returning home after the day’s work and was watching the incident from afar. However, police have taken Suraj into custody and filed an attempt to murder case on him, he said. This is a grave injustice to a common man, he said.
Just because he is a BJP worker, the police have filed case against him and others.
Home Minister Ramlingareddy has been asked to review the case and Reddy has positively responded to this, he said.
BJP leaders Vinod Prabhu, M G Naik, Venkatraman Hegde, Dr G G Hegde, Kumar Markande and others were present.
The incident
It may be stated here that two persons who were illegally transporting cow were assaulted by a group of youths at Karki Naka on March 7. On March 9, the Honnavar police filed attempt to murder charge against Suraj Soni and seven others. All the seven others who hwere absconding, were arrested by the district police from various places.
