Sirsi: A State-level Spices Mela held today, Monday in Sirsi, which provide market for the traditionally grown spices.
The fair was jointly organised by the University of Agriculture Sciences, Dharwad, Agriculture Science Centre, Sirsi, Horticulture Research & Extension centre, Horticulture Department, TSS, TMS, Kadamba Marketing, Development Society, Horticulture College and Forest College.
The eminent scientists from IISR, Kerala has provided detailed information about quality maintenance. For the first time, black pepper exporters were taking part in the fair.
With the support of various organisations and guidance of Scientist Dr M N Venugopal, nearly 25,000 tonne black pepper is being produced in the district. The Sirsi-based Kadamba Marketing Society is exporting organic black pepper, ginger and turmeric.
and to educate farmers about the production of quality products.
It is expected that the fair will be helpful for the farmers to increase the export quantity and and providing good prices.
Inauguration
Sahakari Bharathi Organisation’s National President Konkodi Padmanabh will inaugurate the event on February 26 at 10:30 am. University of Agriculture Sciences, Dharwad Vice Chancellor B S Janagoudar will preside over.
Research Director V M Benagi will inaugurate the exhibition. Extension Director H Basappa will release a book and Patanjali Group’s State In-charge Bhavarlal will release a pepper brand, said a press release.
