Karwar: Due to staff shortage, works are getting delayed at Regional Transport Office (RTO) here, and the existing staff are over-burdened.

Out of 26 posts at the RTO, 11 posts are vacant. Among 15 staff working, five are deputed to other districts.

“The RTO office has to visit Gadag and Karwar every week, and this is delaying the works,” says Nagaraj of Habbuwada.

The number of vehicles getting registered with this RTO is also increasing every year. A total of 425 vehicles were registered in the month of February in 2017, and this is 522 in February 2018.

Upto 20 learning licence applications and 15 driving licence applications are also submitted every day. In addition, changes in permit, address change and other applications have also be settled, says a staff of the RTO.

Karwar is a big taluk geographically, and naturally, Karwar RTO has more works. RTO officials have to visit accident spots also, and the number of accidents is more on NH 66. As three vehicle inspectors are deputed to other places, this work is also delayed, they added.
