Students give school the miss as mosquito menace plays havoc

Kumta: Due to heaps of scraps collected near the school at Khaire village, in the taluk, students are keeping away from the school, fearing the spread of disease due to the mosquito menace.

Already four students of the school have left the school. With no proper action being taken up by the authorities Concerned, health of small children have been put under grave risk.

One Abdul Hasan Aaga has stored scrap including old tyres, plastic buckets, drums, utensils and other waste materials on his land, which is located just behind the school. Water has been accumulated in these waste items, which has led to breeding of mosquito.

With large number of mosquito infesting classrooms, school administration has installed nets to windows to prevent the mosquitoes. However, the mosquito menace has become uncontrollable.

School Development Committee President Savita Ambiga said parents and school staff are worried about the health of students, who have to be in school for over seven hours.

The committee has decided to call a meeting of its members and submit a complaint in this regard to senior officials, she added.

Gram Panchayat President Nagaratna Naik assured of issuing a notice to the landowner Abdul Hasan Aaga, asking him to shift the scrap collected behind the school.
