Students whip up mouthwatering delicacies

Karwar: A wide variety of sweets, prepared using vegetables and fruits, were on display at the inter-collegiate ‘cooking without fire’ competition held as part of four-day annual day celebrations at Karnatak University PG centre, in Karwar, on Monday.

Various salads, ‘mosuru avalakki’, butter milk, ‘srikhand’, ‘masala mandakki’, ‘Kaju chikki’, Beetroot halwa, lollypop prepared of tamarind, and various fruit and vegetable juices by students vied for the attention of judges.

For students, it was a welcome break from routine, and hectic prepartions for the project. They enjoyed the competition, and several other cultural programmes thoroughly. In cooking competition, nine teams, consisting of more than 25 students, took part.

‘Marine cookies’ team bagged first prize, and ‘Arogya mattur Ruchi’ team second place. The ‘Frenzy’ team secured the third rank. The teams were presented with cash award and certificates.

College lecturer S C Arkera, Yakshagana artiste Vijayalakshmi Prashant, and businesswoman Mithali acted as judges.

Head of the Department of Studies in Marine Biology, Jagannath  L Rathod, Dr Shivakumar Haragi, Dr h V Mutari, and PG Centre’s Commerce Department’s Dr Kirankumar Bannigol were present.
