Karwar: District administration and departments concerned should take precautionary measures to avoid any mishaps during rainy season in the district, District In-charge Secretary Munish Moudgil said.
Addressing a progress review meeting, at Deputy Commissioner’s office here, on Monday, he said the possibility of outbreak of contagious diseases during the rainy season was more and therefore, local bodies and health department should lay more stress on maintaining cleanliness and creating awareness on sanitation.
Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul said monsoon showers have set in the district and families residing near and on the crest of hills would be shifted for three to four months.
Construction Company IRB would be providing them compensation of Rs 10,000 per month. Such families have been identified at Kelaginur and Karki in Honnavar taluk and Tandrakuli in Kumta taluk, he said.
The National Highways Authority of India has been asked to form a team to take up relief works at the accident-prone zones on the highway, he said. Two persons died in natural calamity in the district this year. A compensation of Rs 4 lakh has been given to their kin.
Letter written
A letter has been written to the government to provide Rs 1 lakh each from the chief minister’s relief fund, he informed.
Animal Husbandry Department official said 15 cattle had died in calamities and compensation of Rs 2.75 lakh distributed to the owners of 10 cattle.
