Kasargod: An auto-rickshaw driver was arrested by the Vidya Nagar police here on 4th October, Wednesday for using fake currency notes of Rs.500.

The accused has been identified as Kamalkesh Poojari (44yrs), a resident of Perla.

According to the sources, Kamalkesh filled his rickshaw with a petrol of Rs. 2000 at a petrol bunk and paid the amount in four notes of Rs. 500. However, the owner of the bunk suspected something wrong with the notes and contacted the police.

The Vidya Nagar police officials arrived at the spot and after inspecting the notes, they found out that they were fake as the Governor's signature on the notes was wrong. The officials arrested Kamalkesh and also raided his house, however no extra notes were recovered from there.

It was learnt during an interrogation that the auto-driver received these notes from a matka center.

A case stands registered and further investigations are under due.
