Bhatkal: An ex-serviceman has suffered a severe setback as burglars targeted his house while ensuring that no one was at home. The theft incident occurred at the residence of Mahesh Pandit in Saraswati Colony, Chitrapur, Shirali, falling under the jurisdiction of Bhatkal Rural police station.
According to sources, Mahesh, accompanied by his family, traveled to Mumbai on June 8 following the demise of his younger brother. On Saturday evening, vigilant neighbors noticed that his house was left open, raising suspicion of a theft. They promptly informed the police, who arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. The inspection revealed that approximately 290 grams of gold and 12 kg of silver ornaments were missing. The complete inventory of stolen items will only be ascertained upon Mahesh's return to Bhatkal. The stolen gold and silver jewelry is estimated to be valued at more than Rs. 25 lakh.
A case has been registered at Bhatkal rural police station.
