Dharwad: Three people were killed and three others injured when a car overturned after its driver attempted to avoid a truck on National Highway 4 near Venkatapur village in Dharwad district early Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred at around 2.30 am when the car was travelling towards Dharwad. According to preliminary information, the occupants had come to Dharwad for catering work and were returning after having food at a roadside dhaba.
A truck reportedly approached the car from the opposite direction, following which the driver, identified as Basavangouda, applied sudden brakes to avoid a collision. The car went out of control, hit the road divider and overturned.
Three occupants — Vinayak K.U., 25, Manjunath, 29, and Basavaraj, 34, all from Davangere — died on the spot. Three others, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and were shifted to the Dharwad district hospital for treatment.
Police from Garag station reached the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
